Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh says the state spent Rs 60 crore rupees in tackling COVID-19 till date.
The major expenses went into COVID-19 testing, setting up and operating of quarantine centres, COVID-19 care centres across the districts and facilitating returnees from various metro cities amid the lockdown.
Singh added that the state stands committed despite the financial constraints and shall spare no effort in tackling the pandemic.
The chief minister informed that 40,000 rapid antigen testing kits arrived in the state on Wednesday. The government placed an order for 50,000 RAT kits.
Maintaining that the people of the state have collectively faced the pandemic diligently, Singh, expressed his gratitude to healthcare workers, volunteers, community organisations, local leaders and police for their dedicated efforts towards the fight against COVID-19.
Singh further informed that the collective efforts of the people and the government have resulted in low COVID-19 positivity rate of 4.77 per cent and this is far below the national average. The state’s fatality rate of 0.64 per cent is also lower than the national average. Manipur’s testing achievement of 90,156 tests per million populations is also higher than the national average, informed Singh.
Based on the growing knowledge of the virus, Singh said that home isolation of positive persons is now accepted protocol of ministry of health and family welfares (MoHFW) and adopted actively by many states and countries around the world.
In Manipur, around 600 COVID-19 positive people have already opted for home isolation treatment.
Meanwhile, the government is operating a total of 35 COVID-19 care facilities to treat the patients, which include two COVID-19 referral hospitals namely JNIMS and RIMS, two state-level CCC, 17 district-level CCC and 14 isolation ward with bedding capacity of 2,458.
As on October 7, a total of 1,296 beds are occupied by COVID-19 infected patients across the state.
