Agartala: Amidst the ongoing nationwide protest against the Hathras incident in Uttar Pradesh, members of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) staged agitation here on Monday.
Speaking with reporters, TPCC chief Pijush Kanti Biswas said that an hour-long agitation was staged demanding immediate resignation of Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
“The agitation was staged to express our displeasure over the horrific incident that took place in Hathras and in protest of manhandling the former Congress president Rahul Gandhi,” Biswas said.
He also said that a 19-year-old girl was brutally murdered after being gang-raped in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. However, the Yogi administration tried its best to hide the criminals. He complained that Gundaraj has been established in Uttar Pradesh.
“The district magistrate is threatening the victim’s family. The administration is not taking any action. The body of the minor was not handed over to the family after the autopsy to help the criminals. Instead, the police burned the bodies in the dark of night,” Biswas added.
Speaking further, he said that the Uttar Pradesh Police had stopped former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi from visiting the victim’s family. Not only that, Rahul Gandhi was allegedly physically assaulted by the police.
“The Uttar Pradesh government is trying to suppress the democratic and political rights of the Opposition. Yet, they could not stop Rahul Gandhi. Our leader, Rahul Gandhi went to the house of the victim with 35 MPs and heard the horrific incident,” Biswas said.
Biswas said that the Pradesh Congress is observing the agitation in Agartala to express their anguish over the incident and demanding resignation of Yogi Adityanath from the post of chief minister immediately.
