In a recent update on the ongoing topic of the Hathras case where a 20-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped by four people from the upper caste, an FIR has been registered against Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad along with 400 others.

This was the reaction to the violation of Section 144 of CrPC which was applied in the village of Hathras. According to police officials, on Sunday the Azad Samaj Party leader and his supporters created a law and order situation while trying to enter the village.

They added that they had told Azad and his supporters that due to the Epidemic Disease Act and the implementation of Section 144 in the area, a large gathering is which is likely to felicitate the spread of COVID-19 is banned. Additionally, the police even pointed out that the movement of emergency services and ambulances would also be impacted by gatherings as such. “But the supporters sat on the roads despite orders near Sasni Police Station,” the FIR read.

Section 147 (rioting), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 188 (violation of public order), 269 (actions spreading disease) of the Indian Penal Code, and relevant sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act have been imposed in the FIR.

On Sunday, the Bhim Army Chief also demanded a time-bound inquiry by a Supreme Court retired judge into the Hathras incident. He also sought protection for the kin of the deceased. After his visit, Azad told reporters that the family is not safe in the village. He drew in comparison with actor Kangana Ranaut and said that if she can get Y-category security, so can this family as well.

He added that mahapanchayats is being held at every two kilometre and that too in favor of the accused referring to the one which was held in the compound of an ex MLA’s residence. Although no FIR has been registered for that gathering of almost 50 people. He also alleged that stone-pelting is also taking place and added that he wanted the family with him as they are not safe in the village.
