The Royal Challengers Bangalore registered a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over the Rajasthan Royals, riding on a brilliant 99-run-partnership between the young Devdutt Padikkal and skipper Virat Kohli, at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Deciding to bat first after winning the toss, the Rajasthan Royals did not get off to a great start as they lost three quick wickets at the top in the form of Steven Smith(5), Jos Buttler(22) and Sanju Samson(4), after Jos Buttler gave them a good start scoring 22 off just 12 deliveries.
Rajasthan Royals seemed to be in a spot of bother after they were reduced to 70/4 at the end of 10 overs. But it was a good innings from young Mahipal Lomror who scored as fighting 47 off 39 deliveries before he was dismissed in the 17th over.
The Rajasthan Royals got a decent finish to their innings as they scored 55 runs in their last five overs with a quick 20-ball-partnership of 40 runs for the seventh wicket, with Tewatia applying some finishing touches. Rajasthan eventually managed a below-par total at the end of their 20 overs with 154/6. Yuzvendra Chahal was absolutely magnificent as he picked up three important wickets giving away just 24 runs in four overs.
Coming out to chase a rather modest total, RCB lost their opener Aaron Finch early, but it was the young Devdutt Padikkal and the RCB skipper Virat Kohli who stitched a superb 99-run-partnership for the second wicket, making sure RCB reach the total without much scare.
Padikkal brought up his third half-century in his fourth innings before he was dismissed in the 16th over for 63 with his team needing just 31 more.
Virat seemed to get back in form with the bat, as he scored a brilliant unbeaten 72 off 53 deliveries, eventually taking his team to a comprehensive victory by eight wickets and five balls remaining.
RCB now sit at the top of the points table with three wins out of their first four games.
