Guwahati: Prime accused in the Assam SI recruitment exam paper leak case and suspended BJP leader, Diban Deka has been sent to five-day judicial custody as ordered by the chief judicial magistrate court in Guwahati on Thursday evening, according to reports.
As per reports, crime branch had requested to keep Deka for seven days under custody for questioning, however, the court had granted five days at the end of which, on October 5, he would again be presented before the court.
According to sources, he has denied availing any advocate for representing him in the case. He also intends to be the prime witness for the government, sources said.
Diban Deka surrendered before Assam Police at Patacharkuchi area of Bajali district of state on Wednesday night. According to police sources, he was being interrogated at the 4th Assam Police Battalion (APBn) at Kahilipara in city by a high-level state police team headed by ADGP GP, before being produced at the court.
In another development, state president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ranjit Das had announced Deka’s suspension from the party. Das stated that the accused was merely a party-worker and cannot be considered as a leader of the party. He further added that Deka was not assigned any executive role under the state wing of the ruling BJP during his tenure as the party president.
Earlier, former member of the youth wing of the Assam BJP Diban Deka, had posted in his Facebook page clarifying that he was associated with the company responsible for conducting the examination for Assam Police. He also alleged that some of the senior-level officers are involve in the scam.
In his clarification, Deka also confirmed that to save his life, he has already shifted to a different state. “When the situation comes under control, I will inform everything to the media,” he said.
