Guwahati: Investigation into the alleged irregularities in the Assam Police SI recruitment case hits a roadblock as the prime accused of the case is still at large. Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Assam Police PK Dutta allegedly the chief conspirator has till now been successful in evading the investigation as his whereabouts are still unknown.

As per media reports, Dutta along with his alleged co-conspirator Dibon Deka, a leader of the ruling BJP party, have escaped to Nepal where reportedly Dutta’s daughter lives.

The entire nexus came to light when Hirakjyoti Barua, a candidate of the examination was arrested from Karbi Anglong. During interrogation Barua told the CID, who have been given the charge of investigate the matter, that he had allegedly handed Rs 6 lakh through a middleman to Dutta.

So far Nalbari police have arrested six accused in in connection with the case. Harkat Ali, Sanjib Barman, Mridul Barman, Partha Pratim Pathak and Dhrubajyoti Baruah had appeared in the SI examination, were arrested from different locations of the district on Sunday night. Moreover the police said that it is on the lookout for one Kumud Goswami who is also involved in the scam.

In another interesting turn of events, the chairman of Assam State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB), Pradip Kumar has tendered his resignation on Sunday citing moral responsibility over the leak of question paper over the leak of question paper of Assam Police SI (Unarmed Branch) recruitment examination.

The reired IPS officer, who was at helm of the recruitment board for the last several years have been drawing flak following the question paper leak, with many accusing Kumar of negligence and as chairman of the recruitment board.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Kumar stated that the decision to quit his post is taken owning moral responsibility over the the entire incident.

“The State Government had appointed me as the chairman of the board so that unemployed youths could get employment on merit basis. During my tenure I have tired my best to conduct all recruitment examinations in a transparent manner. But due to the conspiracy hatched by vested interest circle, irregularities had taken place in SI recruitment examination” Kumar said in the statement.
