Guwahati: The Kings XI Punjab registered a thumping victory against the Royal Challengers Bangalore by a huge margin of 97-runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
As the Kings clinched their first victory of the season, it was their skipper KL Rahul, who stole the entire show yesterday night. It was a KL Rahul show or we can call it the KL-assic show throughout the Punjab innings as he scored a sensational knock of 132 not out of just 69 deliveries, smashing the Royal Challengers’ bowlers to all parts of the game.
En-route to his sensational unbeaten 132 and winning his first game as the KXIP skipper, he achieved a number of milestones on Thursday night. Know them here –
Fastest Indian to 2000 IPL runs
KL Rahul became the fastest Indian to reach 2000 IPL runs in 60 innings surpassing a record which was held by the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar who reached the same in 63 innings. Rahul needed just two runs to achieve the feat when he came out to bat. The overall record of scoring the fastest 2000 runs in IPL is held by Rahul’s KXIP teammate, the Universe Boss Chirs Gayle who reached the same in 48 innings. Gayle is yet to play a match in this season of the IPL
Highest Individual Score by an Indian in the IPL
Rahul’s match-winnings score of 132 not out against the RCB yesterday, was the highest individual score by an Indian in the history of the Indian Premier League. He is followed by Rishabh Pant, who held the record of the same until yesterday with a score of 128 not out. Overall Rahul has the fourth highest individual score in the IPL now. Ahead of him are AB de Villiers(133), Brendon McCullum(158) and Chris Gaye(175*).
Highest Score by a Captain in the IPL
With a score of 132 not-out as the skipper of the Kings XI Punjab, Rahul now has the highest score by a captain in the history of the IPL. Rahul surpassed the Australian southpaw, David Warner, who previously held the record with a score of 126 as the skipper of the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Highest Individual score by a KXIP batsman
Kings XI Punjab seems to be lucky for KL Rahul. After having two great seasons in 2018 and 2019, Rahul was chosen as the skipper of the KXIP and in the very second game as the skipper of KXIP, Rahul has sent records tumbling his way. With his score of 132*, Rahul now also holds the record of having the highest individual score by a Kings XI batsman in the history of the IPL. Rahul surpassed the Australian southpaw Shaun Marsh, who previously held the record with a score of 115 against Rajasthan Royals.
