New Delhi: Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) minister Dr Jitender Singh unveiled the logo and song for “Destination North East 2020″( The Emerging Delight Destinations) festival through a video conference on Monday.
Starting from September 27, “Destination North East 2020” will be a 4-day event which will be inaugurated by the union home minister Amit Shah. The list of dignitaries who would be present during the event include DoNER minister Dr Jitender Singh as the guest of honour for the opening ceremony, Kiren Rijiju, union Minister of youth affairs and sports, as chief guest for the closing ceremony who will be joined by Rameshwar Teli, union minister of state for food processing as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh stated that the event “Destination North East 2020” is an effort to make everyone explore the local destinations rather than going anywhere abroad. Such an initiative will further reverberate the prime minister’s recent push towards “Atmanirbharta” (self-reliance) as the event will promote the three messages of “Visit Local, Travel Local and Explore Local”, feels the union minister.
Singh also said that the northeastern region of the country has lot to offer to the rest of India starting from its culture, cuisines, entrepreneurship skills, scenic attributes to the rich business tradition in the areas of bamboo, handicrafts, textiles and handloom.
The festival “Destination North East” has been held in different parts around the country for the last couple of years. It was held in Varanasi in 2019 and in Chandigarh the year before that. This year however, the event can be attended while being at home as it will be conducted virtually because of the pandemic.
The Union minister said that the festival is not just about tourism, but is an invitation to the organisations and especially for the young entrepreneurs who would like to avail the advantage of unexplored potentials of the region. He believes that the Northeast can become one of the favourite tourist and business destinations of India in post COVID-19 times.
