Guwahati: As Narendra Modi turns 70 on Thursday, the hashtag #NationalUnemploymentDay trumped birthday wishes to the Prime Minister of the country with demands for jobs surfacing on the social media platform.

Preparations of PM Modi’s birthday went ahead with a campaign named, “Seva Shapath”, a week-long drive which started from September 14 and will continue till September 20.

Programmes such as presentation of artificial limbs and other equipment to 70 differently-abled people in every ‘Mandal’ of the country and the distribution of spectacles to 70 blind people have been undertaken by BJP to commemorate their leader’s anniversary.

But as the day arrived Twitterati decided to divert the attention towards another pressing issue of unemployment which have reached mammoth numbers following the economic crisis brought by the pandemic.

“Everyone must celebrate with grief National Unemployment Day #राष्ट्रीयबेरोजगारदिवस Farmers- Dissatisfied. Youth – Unemployed. Economy – Worst Small businessman – Collapsed #NationalUnemploymentDay Ache din kaha h,” wrote one user on twitter.

This week is also being celebrated as a Rashtriya Berojgar Saptah and it will culminate on Thursday. In this week, the youth continuously tried to communicate their issues, conditions and all the problems to the government through various means.

Interestingly, coming up in the race for top trending on Twitter standing at second is the hashtag #HappyBirthdayPMModi. A majority of people on Twitter have showed their appreciation towards PM Modi’s efforts in curbing the spread of COVID-19 across the city and also the handling the India-China border stand-off among other things

It is a rare sight to see the famed BJP IT cell who have been known to influence the opinion of masses through digital platform falling on the day especially on the day of their beloved leader.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi having wished the Prime Minister also went to contribute to eruption in twitter using the hashtag for unemployment.”Massive unemployment has forced the youth to call today #NationalUnemploymentDay. Employment is dignity. For how long will the Govt deny it?” wrote Gandhi on twitter.

Many Indians, especially the youth, have been demanding for reforms in SSC and other recruitment processes. This entire week, Twitter has been buzzing with concerns of jobs and employment, many demanding answers from the ruling BJP regime

This week was also celebrated as a “Rashtriya Berojgar Saptah” as opposed to “Seva Saptah” and it concludes on Thursday.
