Kohima: During the 70th birthday celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, state BJP president Temjen Imna Along lauded the PM’s consistent will in tackling the Naga political issue.
Speaking at the occasion, Along, who is the minister of higher & technical education, tribal affairs, said that till this day Nagas remember the Framework Agreement (FA) signed on August 3, 2015, when the premier walked hand in hand with the Naga leaders.
Along said that during the talks with various civil organizations over the Naga political issue, it was observed that many people expressed faith in the Premier. While there has been many reasons which have contributed to the delay of a solution to the issue, Along acknowledged the “consistent attitude” of the PM to solve the vexed Naga political issue. “That is a leadership of substance,” he said.
So far the stand of the BJP party is concerned, Along said that it is definitive and that it wants a “happy solution”. He added that the desire of the PM is building a robust nation. The party chief added that it is for the Nagas to choose what the Nagas want and that it is not for those in Delhi to decide what Nagas want.
It is evident that the common desire of the Nagas is to have an “honorable, acceptable and inclusive”. Speaking about it, Along recalled the FA when the PM “walked” with the Naga leaders. Also citing that they reached the Prime Minister’s office from the jungle, Along said “That is honorable”, further adding that it is one step of ‘honorable’.
On what is “acceptable”, he said that it is for the Nagas to decide. Highlighting about the differences of opinions among the Nagas, he said the issue should not give burden to Centre. He recommeneded that the people of Nagaland must come together, “be strong” and present what is acceptable.
Speaking about the “inclusive” solution, Along said that this is the most difficult question to answer. He pointed that while some wants all Nagas to be united, there are some who only wants the state of Nagaland, and others who wants to “go away from Nagaland” and form a “frontier Nagaland”.
“How inclusive can we be then if we have fragment visions, goals and attitude,” asked Along. He said that one should not blame the Government of India (GoI) headed by the Prime Minister.
He then urged all to be “proud citizens as Nagas” and believe in the Constitution of the country where the Preamble is “made clear”. As Nagas has suffered much, he said it is for Nagas to decide and that the BJP party wants a “happy solution” for the people.
Also expressing that there will be differences in opinions, he said it is the beauty of Democracy. Whether it receives love or hate, he said that the BJP party is “here to stay in Nagaland”.
On the differences within the party, Along urged its members to “forget and forgive” and humble before one another. He said that the party must stand in the “gap” and build a strong party that will bridge the gaps between the Centre and the people.
Meanwhile, Along also acknowledged the party members and various leaders. While many citizens have been benefiting from the various central schemes, Along expressed delight on learning how locals are also benefiting through the various social services conducted by the party in the ongoing the Sewa Saptah (service week).
Glorifying the initiatives undertaken by the Premier, the state party chief wished Modi on his 70th birthday. The semi-virtual birthday celebration of the PM was held at the BJP head office in Kohima. The presidential address by the party chief was delivered after the birthday cake.
