Aizawl: Mizoram unit of BJP has slammed the state government for allegedly setting up a separate Covid-19 Care Centre (CCC) for treating VIPs infected with novel coronavirus.

A statement issued by the party alleged that the Mizoram government was honouring a VIP culture at a time the Central government is making massive efforts to do away with the culture.

The statement said that the government on Tuesday set up a separate Covid-19 Care Centre for treating VIPs, who have been infected with Covid-19, just a day after health secretary H. Lalengmawia tested positive for the virus.

Accusing the Mizo National Front (MNF)-led state government of being “bias” in its treatment towards officials and important persons, the BJP said its lone legislator Dr BD Chakma, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, was shifted to and is currently undergoing treatment with other patients at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), the lone dedicated Covid-19 hospital in the state while the health secretary has been placed under home isolation.

“It is very unfortunate that Mizoram is dealing with a “biased government,” which is keen on showing partiality towards people, who are in good term with the MNF party,” the statement said.

The party also said that many MPs, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, when diagnosed with Covid-19 were not undergoing treatment in specially arranged Covid-19 Care Centres but normal hospitals.

Citing that setting up of special Covid-19 Care Centre for VIP patients will only result in wastage of public money at a time when the state is reeling under financial crisis, the BJP asked the state government to reverse its decision to set up Covid-19 Care Centre for VIPs.

The Mizoram government on Tuesday issued an order designating a 28 bedded new MLA hostel at Khatla locality in Aizawl as Covid-19 Care Centre for treating VIPs, who have been diagnosed with Covid-19.

Mizoram on Wednesday reported 12 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the state’s tally to 1,480.

According to norms, symptomatic patients and those with comorbid conditions are being treated at ZMC while asymptomatic patients are being admitted at Covid-19 Care Centres.

However, the state government on Tuesday issued home isolation guidelines allowing asymptomatic and very mild symptomatic Covid-19 patients to stay under home isolation provided that they have the requisite facilities at their residences for self-isolation so as to avoid contact with other family members.
