Guwahati: The star-studded list for the commentary panel of the 2020 season of Indian Premier League (IPL) was announced by the official broadcaster, Star Sports, on Monday.

The commentary panel for the cash-rich league includes names of veterans like Sunil Gavaskar, Ian Bishop, Harsha Bhogle, Danny Morrison and a number of other famous cricketers, who will be travelling to the UAE to cover the games. However, interestingly, the name of former Indian cricketer-cum-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has been omitted from the list.

Although there is no official word regarding Manjrekar, it seems the BCCI is no mood to take him back on board. Manjrekar was axed by the BCCI before the ODI series against South Africa in March, after a series of controversies engulfed the former India cricketer.

Manjrekar was involved in a social media banter with India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, after the former called Jadeja ‘bits and pieces cricketer’ during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in June.

Following the World Cup incident, Manjrekar was once again in the news in November last year, when he was criticized for questioning the credentials of someone like a Harsha Bhogle, who is considered as the voice of Indian cricket, just because the latter didn’t play domestic cricket. Manjrekar wrote to BCCI earlier last month to reinstate him in the panel for IPL 2020, but to vain.

The tournament broadcaster also named a separate commentary panel for Hindi and other languages who will be operating out of Mumbai, but Manjrekar did find a place in those lists as well.

Former India chief selectors MSK Prasad and Kris Srikkant will be commentating in Telugu and Tamil, respectively, while former India assistant coach Sanjay Bangar along with former India pacers Irfan Patha and Ashish Nehra will be a part of the hindi commentary panel.

Lisa Sthalekar, who was inducted in the ICC hall of Fame last month, along with former India Women captain Anjum Chopra are the two women commentators on the list.
