Guwahati: Assam government will undertake infrastructure projects worth over 10,000 crores in the next few months ahead of elections. Announcing this finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “This would be the highest infrastructural investment taken up by the state in one go.”
He declared the state government’s decision to build four new medical colleges, including a second medical college in Guwahati. Medical colleges are to be built at Biswanath, Charaideo, Goalpara and in Guwahati. Construction work to begin by December this year.”The second medical college in Guwahati will be the largest medical college in the eastern India.” proclaimed Sarma.
Furthermore under the 10,000 crore projects, state will get six more colleges for undergraduate students and ten new law colleges.
Assam Government to also construct two new flyovers – one at Maligaon in Guwahati and another at Mission Chariali in Tezpur. “The new flyover will connect the Guwahati airport to the Kamakhya Mandir, it will span over four kilometers” stated the finance minister.
“Earlier all state departments had to gain authorization from the finance department for any expenditure, now the authorization would no longer be required and departments under delegated financial power can authorize financial and administrative decisions on their own,” said Sarma.
Moreover the earlier decision of not spending more than 10 percent of the state’s establishment expenditure has been withdrawn informed Sarma at the conference. The tax exemptions to the industries by the government shall be resumed. The restrictions on the Development Fund of the MLAs will also be lifted, notified the state finance minister.
“However, a few austerity measures will continue. The ban on the purchase of vehicles shall continue, and so will the ban on conferences, workshops, seminars, and fairs. Only the CM will be able to travel by executive class. Government events cannot be held in 5-star hotels, the international travel shall remain and the reduction in the salaries of MLAs, Ministers, etc, shall also be continued,” Sarma said.
Sarma then assumed his portfolio of also being the state education minister and announced that the state government is set to recruit 10,789 new teachers in second phase of teachers’ recruitment process; of which, 1,102 new Hindi teachers and 3,941 assistant teachers under primary education and 5,746 posts in high schools under secondary education are to be recruited before the end of this year at the press meet.
Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Already there are 20 hospitals where one can avail free kidney dialysis and now we are adding 20 more hospitals in the list. A total of 55,168 patients have availed free Hemodialysis service so far.”
