Imphal: In a move to provide financial support to the farmers amid the crisis, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday distributed Rs 7,500 each to the organic farmers in the state amounting to Rs 6.5 crore.
At least, 7,500 organic farmers received the monetary assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) scheme, said CM Biren Singh.
“Let’s make our state self-sufficient of organic fruits and vegetables and uplift the state’s economy. Let’s make vocal for local,” said Singh.
Since 2016, we have been providing financial assistance to the farmers and so far, 12,500 organic farmers in the state has benefited from the scheme, said Debadutta Sharma, director, directorate of horticulture and soil conservation, Manipur.

Farmers have suffered the most during this pandemic lockdown in the state and such scheme is one of holistic approach by the government to uplift the living standard of the people in the state.
Moreover, chief minister also distributed pension cards under the Manipur Old Age Pension (MOAP) Scheme to at least 20,833 pensioners enrolled through the ‘Go to Village’ mission under the social welfare department.
“With deepest respect for the senior citizens of the state, Old Age Pension Cards are distributed to 20,833 pensioners of various Assembly Constituencies,” said Singh.
As per reports, the state government has also initiated plans to make the state self-sufficient in production of some selected items, including rice, onion, pulses, fish, and livestock among others to improve the weakling state’s economy.
