The total number of COVID-19 cases in Manipur now stands at 7,362 till date

Imphal: One more patient of COVID-19 died due to the virus on Wednesday, taking the total death toll in Manipur to 40.

As per the data released by COVID-19 Common Control Room, a 39-year-old man from Thoubal district was succumbed to the contagion virus at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital.

Another 160 fresh cases, including 25 security personnel, were registered as new COVID-19 positive patients in the last 24 hours in the state. They were diagnosed to the disease at VRDL JNIMS, RIMS RAT, Raj Medicity, Imphal West, Advance Hospital, Kangpokpi, Maipakpi, Imphal East, Babina Diagnostics, Ukhrul, Kakching, Bishnupur and IRL.

Of the 135 from the general population, only three persons from Kakching and Bishnupur are returnees from other states and remaining 132 are locals with no travel history, said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.

Now, the total confirmed cases for coronavirus in the state has soared to 7,362, including 1,738 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

As on September 9, the recovery rate for COVID-19 patients stood at 75.35 per cent with 64 more infected persons got discharged in the last 24 hours.

As per the official, as many as 5,548 persons have recovered from the disease and 1774 more remain as active cases.

Meanwhile, owing to the rapid rise of local transmission, especially in Imphal West and Imphal East districts, the state health department have initiated to strengthen surveillance testing and for implementation of home isolation for the asymptomatic positive cases in the two valley districts.

The department have also identified seven doctors from Imphal West and five doctors from Imphal East along with three supporting staff from Imphal East as part of the surveillance measures, said Dr Mangang.
