Shillong: Following complains raised by patients on hospitals denying treatment, Meghalaya health and family welfare minister AL Hek on Tuesday has cautioned all hospitals in state not to deny treatment fearing COVID-19 and asked them to cater to patients immediately.

Hek informed that several patients have raised their concerns that hospitals in the state were not immediately admitting patients and were waiting for the COVID test results to come through.

He said, “Hospital management instead of taking the patient’s they are waiting for COVID test to be done. We have stated earlier also that no hospital be it private or govt hospitals cannot deny treatment by waiting for reports of the patient.They are made to wait for more than 24 -48 hrs making the patients health deteriorate.”

Meanwhile, the state recorded 42 fresh positive COVID-19 cases taking the total active tally to 1,343.

The state also witnessed a good recovery rate, with 156 new recovered cases (East Khasi Hills E- 53, Ri-Bhoi-3, East Garo Hills-73, West Jaintia Hills – 1, West Garo Hills -26). The total recovered cases in the state stands at 1,716.
