The total number of COVID-19 cases in Manipur now stands at 7,022 on Sunday

Imphal: The death toll from COVID-19 in Manipur rose to 38 with two more persons succumbing to the virus. The infected cases rose to 7,022 with 139 new cases on Sunday.

In the last 24 hours, two new deaths were from Thoubal and Imphal West districts. A 53-year-old man undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital and a 31-year-old woman at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital died due to the virus and other co-morbid conditions.

Of the 139 new cases which include 81 male and 40 female, 121 are from the general population and 18 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

Among districts which reported fresh cases of COVID-19 includes Imphal West (74), Imphal East (21), Senapati (1), Ukhrul (2), Tamenglong (1), Thoubal (18), Churachandpur (2) and Bishnupur (2). All locals’ cases do not have significant travel history to other states, it said.

Meanwhile, another 189 novel coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from the infection from CAPF and other COVID-19 care centres after testing negative on RT PCR test. With this, the recovery rate in the state stands at 73.54 per cent.

As many as 5,164 patients have recovered from COVID-19 positive till date and 1,820 persons remain as active cases in the state.
