Hima Das urges govt to incorporate sports in academic curriculum Credit: Twitter

Guwahati: Arjuna awardee Hima Das attended a high-level committee meeting on the new education policy among many others at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara in Guwahati.

The meeting consisted of educationalists and representatives from various departments, it was convened in the presence of education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary and principal secretary, education, B Kalyan Chakravarthy.

The guests and members present at the meeting focused on strengthening the education sector in Assam to adapt to the new revolutionary policy. The Olympic gold medalist, nicknamed as ‘Dhing Express’ emphasised on the need of incorporating sports in the academic curriculum and further development in the field of sports in Assam.

Das who was present at the first meeting of the advisory committee is expected to reach Patiala soon to resume her training to take part in upcoming Olympic Games.

Representing the arena of sports, general secretary of Assam Cricket Association, Devajit Lon Saikia was also present at the meeting. “Privileged to attend the first meeting of the High Level Committee for implementing National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 in Assam….a challenging and huge task ahead which will restructure and overhaul the existing education system and place a new one for the Gen-x” said Saikia in a tweet.

It was the first in the series of several meetings of the previously constituted 73 member committee to assist the Assam government in framing and implementing the education policy in the state.

Earlier Himanta Biswa Sarma said the committee was formed following the Centre’s notification on constituting a committee to safeguard the interests of the state’s youth. “The committee will submit its report by December 31 and by January we want to prepare the blueprint for implementation in the state” added Sarma on the formation of the high level committee.
