Imphal: Manipur social welfare minister Nemcha Kipgen, who had earlier tested positive for COVID-19, has reportedly been recovered after her sample was tested negative on Friday.

The 57-year-old minister was diagnosed with the disease on August 25 after her sample was found positive at Babina Diagnostics Center in Imphal.

“I got myself tested again for COVID-19, and the report came back negative this time. I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Kangpokpi district medical team and Dr Lokeswor JNIMS, for their medical care and constant support,” said the minister.

Meanwhile, Manipur reported three more deaths due to COVID-19 positive on Friday, taking the total fatality in the state to 35.

In the last 24 hours, a 60-year-old woman and two male, aged 60 and 39 years, were succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment at Shija and JNIMS Hospitals in Imphal, said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.

Two of them were from Imphal East and the other was from Thoubal districts, it said.

Also, in the past 24 hours, another 90 fresh cases, including 24 security personnel, were detected as new COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur. All the 66 cases from the locals do not travel history to other states, said Dr Mangang.

With this, the total confirmed cases for the coronavirus in the state rose to 6,699, in which 5,046 are from the general population and 1,653 are from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

The locally transmitted cases were reported from Imphal West (10), Imphal East (12), Bishnupur (13), Thoubal (8), Jiribam (3), Kakching (2), Tengnoupal (15) and Ukhrul (3) districts, respectively.

And, with 125 more infected persons recovered on Friday, the recovery rate in the state has increased to 73.13 per cent.

The total recovered from the disease till date is 4,899 and as many as 1,765 persons remain as active cases.
