Manipur: RIMS gets level-1 trauma care centre worth Rs 11 crore

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday inaugurated the newly built Level-1 Trauma Care Centre at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital through video conference in Imphal.

The newly inaugurated state-of-the-art Trauma Care Centre has been constructed at a cost of Rs 11 crore under the centrally-sponsored scheme, ‘Capacity development for developing trauma care facilities in government hospitals located on national highways’.

The construction work which was begun on 2016 was initiated by the ministry of health and family welfare with a mission to build a pan-India trauma centre network within every 100 km radius so that accident victims would not have to be transported for than 50 km, it said.

According to RIMS medical superintendent Prof Ch Arunkumar Singh, Rs 1 crore was incurred for the civil construction and the remaining was for the procurement of equipment.

“Undoubtedly, this level-1 trauma centre equipped with neurosurgery, general surgery and thoracic surgery and other orthopaedic will save many lives related to a road traffic accident,” said Prof Ch Arunkumar Singh.

Addressing the occasion, CM Singh urged the public to be responsible and follow traffic rules, because large numbers of road casualties are due to the negligence and non-adherence to these rules.

While highlighting the performance of the hospital and its hard work towards providing patient health care services, Singh also stated that new facilities at the trauma care center will help the patients suffering due to accident.

Besides the state-of-the-art facility having CT Scan, radiography, ultrasonography, the installation of 30-bedded ICU with ventilators and twin operation theatre complex will help in combating COVID-19 pandemic, officials said.
