Agartala: Two of the six minors, who were arrested over the gang-rape of an eight-year-old girl in Tripura, tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Sunday, said a police official.
The duo, aged 12 and 13 years, were arrested by Airport police station on Saturday after the father of the survivor filed an FIR.
“A total of seven persons were named in the FIR with charges of gang-rape of an 8-year-old girl in Bamutia area. We arrested six of them, while one person is absconding,” said sub-divisional police officer Priya Madhuri Majumder.
She also said that the incident occurred at Tabaria area under the Airport police station on Friday.
“According to the complaint, the family alleged that the accused called the victim, who is a minor, on the pretext of playing hide and seek and then they allegedly raped her. All the accused and victim are minors,” Majumder said.
She also said that a specific case was registered and the police have started investigating the matter.
Earlier on August 11, an FIR was filed against a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan for allegedly raping a minor for nearly seven months and making her pregnant at a village in Tripura’s Unakoti district.
Earlier this month, a 54-year-old man was arrested for raping his minor neighbor in Sepahijala district. On July 30, 10 persons were held for gang-raping a 17-year-old in Khowai district.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 media bulletin informed that currently 340 persons are under facility quarantine, while 3,537 are under home quarantine.
So far, a total of 2,68,276 were tested, of which 11,323 persons have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, with 98 deaths and 4,012 active cases so far.
