Nagaland: 40 security personnel, 31 others test COVID positive; 109 recover

Kohima: With a daily spike in COVID-19 cases, Nagaland is nearing the 40,00-mark as another 71 new cases of COVID-19 were detected on Sunday. Among the new cases, 40 are armed force spersonnel, 15 are persons through traced contacts, 11 are returnees and five are frontline workers.

Out of the total of 40 armed force personnel, 37 are from Kohima, two are from Mokokchung and one is from Zunheboto. Among the traced contacts, eight are from Kohima, six are from Tuensang, and one is from Zunheboto.

Among the returnees, six are from Tuensang, three are from Mokokchung and two from Dimapur. Among the frontline workers, four are from Kohima and one from Tuensang.

A total of 49 new cases have been detected from Kohima, 13 are from Tuensang, five are from Mokokchung and two each are from Zunheboto and Dimapur.

Nagaland health minister informed that another 109 COVID-19 patients recovered on Sunday. However, the districts from where the patients recovered has not been mentioned.

Besides the eight confirmed COVID-19 deaths, one death is COVID-19 positive but not due to COVID-19. Three more deaths are under investigation.

Out of the total positive cases in the state, 1,673 are armed forces personnel, 1,255 are returnees, 711 are through traced contacts and 283 are frontline workers.

Data show that infections among traced contacts is emerging as a trend in Nagaland in the past weeks. As per the state’s health and family welfare department, 52% of the infections are from workplaces, 40% are from households, 4% infections are from the same locality or social gatherings, 3% are from the hospitals, and 1% through transport.

Office/workplace and household are where most positive cases have acquired infections. Closed space settings are the highest risk for infection where personal safety measures have to be strictly ensured. The health department said that hand-washing, use of mask and physical distancing along with adequate natural ventilation.
