Guwahati: In a bid to raise funds for artistes affected by the COVID-19 crisis, Mumbai-based band Swapnil & The Little Black Dress is performing a live show on Skillbox at 7 pm on Saturday.
Led by Guwahati-native Swapnil Gogoi, a record producer and bassist, the band has three other members — Amit Verma on the vocals, Kedar Bhojraj on drums and Arka Dasgupta on the guitars.
Currently residing in Malad in Mumbai, Gogoi completed audio engineering from the Mumbai Music Institute and is currently freelancing as mixing engineer apart from being a part of the band.
Gogoi is one of the many artistes who are facing a tough time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the industries that has been facing the brunt due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its subsequent lockdowns is the music industry. To be particular, it’s the indie aka independent music industry that has been drastically affected.
Gogoi has joined hands with Skillbox, an art community platform for musicians and artists, music and art enthusiasts, professionals and technicians from the music and arts ecosystem, to host a live concert on Saturday [August 29].
The live-streaming platform of Skillbox — LiveBox — is the latest initiative that has emerged out of the need for artistes to continue to be able to monetise their art form while adapting to the difficult times when live venues, etc, are shut down due to the pandemic.
Gogoi will perform with his band from 7 pm onwards. They are an alternative rock act who have been around for little over a year now.
They have been working in the studio crafting their way towards releasing original content. While working as musicians who feed the huge industry of Bollywood film music, they have tirelessly functioned towards building their own catalogue which they shall showcase in an hour-long live performance for their fans, friends, and family on Saturday.
The band is currently working on the debut EP ‘Raastein’. “The EP consists of four songs and versatility is the keyword here,” said Gogoi.
