Shillong: Five police personnel were injured after vehicle was attacked with stones and petrol bombs in Mawlyndep, Ri-Bhoi district on Tuesday evening.
According to a statement issued by the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, one of the personnel sustained burn injuries. The injured were rushed to Civil Hospital Shillong. Two police personnel are undergoing treatment, and their condition is stable while three were discharged after rendering first aid.
Umiam police also immediately rushed towards the area when the incident happened. SOT teams were dispatched to comb the area. Broken bottles, one unused petrol bomb and a small quantity of petrol in a plastic bottle were recovered from the attack site.

The Farmers Association of Lawmei and those opposing Assam vehicles coming to the Lawmei vegetable collection centre, had a meeting with the BDO Sohiong and accompanied by OC Lumdiengjri. Accordingly, the BDO said that the Collection Centre must function and requested the police for security.
It was during this interim, the personnel deployed at Lawmei on their way back the police vehicle was attacked. Officer-in-charge Lumdiengjri PS has lodged an FIR under various sections of the IPC.
