Eight times Olympic gold medallist, Usain Bolt has tested positive for COVID-19, a week after celebrating his 34th birthday in a grand mask-free party. He is now in self-quarantine at his home in Jamaica.
Bolt posted a video on social media of him in bed after getting tested captioned “stay safe my ppl”. He said that he has no symptoms but was going to isolate to be responsible.
The world record holder in the 100m and 200m distances, the athlete took the test on Saturday, the day after he celebrated his birthday at a bash.
He said, “[I’m] trying to be responsible so I’m going to stay in, and stay away from my friends. And also, I am having no symptoms, so I am going to quarantine myself. And will wait and see what is the protocol and how should I go about quarantining myself, from the Ministry of Health.”
Premier League star Raheem Sterling and former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle reportedly went to the party.
In Jamaica, daily cases have surged to more than 60 per day over the past four days from less than 10 just a few weeks ago. It is largely blamed on people who refuse to wear a mask.
