Union health and family welfare minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Saturday claimed that India’s first COVID-19 vaccine could be available by the end of the year.

During the inaugural function of 10-bedded makeshift NDRF hospital in Ghaziabad, the Union minister stated that one of India’s COVID-19 vaccines is in the third stage of human trials.

He said that the country will have a vaccine “soon after the phased trials are over”.

Reports have stated the health minister saying, “We are very confident that a vaccine will be developed by end of this year.”

Talking about COVID-19 progress, the health minister highlighted that India’s recovery rate has reached almost 75%. Further, 2.2 million patients have recovered and gone home and another seven lakh are going to be cured very soon.

As per updates on Sunday morning, India’s total COVID-19 count increased to 30,44,940 confirmed cases of which 22,80,566 have recovered, 707,668 are active and 56,706 have succumbed to the viral infection.
