Kokrajhar: Gautam Dev Sharma of Assam’s Kokrajhar district has been selected for ‘National Award to Teachers 2020’ by the Union ministry of human resource development (HRD).
Sharma is among the 47 teachers from across the country to be conferred with the prestigious award for the year with the Centre releasing the names of Friday.
A science teacher of Kokrajhar Govt HS & MP School, Sharma hails from Basugaon in Chirang district. He is the only teacher to get the national award from the state from among the 47 teachers selected from across the country this year.
The award will be conferred during the Teacher’s Day celebrations on September 5 in New Delhi.
Thanking the teachers, students, parents and the members of the management committee of the school, Sharma also thanked the government for adopting a clean process to select the teachers from across the country.
“Apart from my regular duty of offering classroom education to students, I would also like to continue with my initiatives to create awareness on education and the importance of education among the different sections of the people in the rural areas of the state in days to come,” he said.
Meanwhile, the teachers and students of Govt HS & MP School have expressed happiness and extended their best wishes to Sharma for the award.
The teachers of the school also felicitated him during a programme organised in the school premises on Saturday.
According to an order issued by the HRD ministry, the department of school education and literacy constituted an independent jury at the national level to select the awardees for 2020.
“The jury reviewed the list of 153 teachers as shortlisted by all the 36 state and UT selection committees and seven organisation selection committees through video conferencing,” the order said.
