Guwahati: BTS just dropped its new music video Dynamite and is now the new record-holder of the highest number of views on YouTube for a video premiere. The music video is also pacing to become the most-viewed video on YouTube in the first 24 hours.
Dynamite, which was released on Friday, marks the first full English language song by the K-pop sensation. While they have used English lyrics in their earlier songs, Dynamite is their first song that is completely in English.
According to the band, the release of the song was initially not a part of their plan. It was the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic which moved them to put a new track out “as soon as possible,” which would excite and energize their fans.
Kim Nam Joon, popularly known by his stage name RM, in an online press meet said, “The release of ‘Dynamite’ wasn’t in our plans at all,” adding, “As soon as we heard it, we thought it was really fun and exciting, a fun and cheery song that wasn’t that serious. It just made us feel good when we heard it.”
“We really wanted to share this energy with the fans as soon as possible,” the rapper added.
RM said that this song was a challenge for the popular boy band as most of their team members are not fluent in English (except RM). The group even planned for a world tour but the COVID-19 scene derailed most of their plans. Feeling powerless and frustrated the team tried to channel their energy into a new track which for them was their “our own recharge project.”
The song which premiered on Friday drew just over four million live concurrent viewers on YouTube at one point. Although official numbers are yet to be released it easily destroyed the record set by K-pop girl group Blackpink for How You Like That in June which clocked 1.66 million concurrent viewers. Within just eight hours the preppy disco number has 51 million views.
The music video is also trending number one in YouTube. The record holder for the most number of views on YouTube in just 24 hours is none other than Blackpink’s How You Like That with 86.3 million views.
