Veteran India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh will not be leaving for Dubai with the rest of the Chennai Super Kings squad on Friday due to his mother’s illness.
The veteran off-spinner, who had already skipped the five-day training and conditioning camp for CSK’s Indian players, will not be in Chennai when the franchise boards its flight for Dubai on Friday. Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had also missed the five-day camp but he will be joining the squad flying to Dubai on Friday.
According to reports, he is expected to join the team a week or ten days later in the UAE ahead of the 2020 IPL. Singh’s late arrival will make it five players for the Super Kings who won’t be part of the squad when it first arrives in the UAE.
Faf du Plessis and Lungi Ngidi, who will arrive in early September from South Africa, and Imran Tahir, Mitchell Santner and Dwayne Bravo who are playing in the CPL, are the others.
Harbhajan has been an integral part of the franchise ever since CSK roped him ahead of IPL 2018 for his base price of Rs 2 crore.
Harbhajan who has 150 wickets in 160 matches in the IPL, picked up 16 wickets in the last edition of the tournament in just 11 matches.
The Mahendra Singh Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings will be seen in action in the opening match of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League, as they take on the defending champion Mumbai Indians on September 19.
