Hackers say they would publish the info collected on the 'Dark Web'

Guwahati: Five-star luxury hotel Ritz London and the makers behind the famous Jack Daniel’s bourbon whiskey have become the latest victims of cyber attacks.

Brown Forman, a major US manufacturer of various alcoholic beverage brands that include Jack Daniel’s and Finlandia, has been targeted by a REvil/Sodinokibi ransomware attack. Although they claim that they have prevented the hackers from encrypting their files, an anonymous message by the hackers to Bloomberg states that they were able to copy a terabyte of confidential data. They added that they would even publish the confidential data on the ‘Dark Web’.

Jonathan Knudsen, senior consultant at Synopsis Software Integrity Group, said that they were actually successful in preventing the attackers from encrypting the files. Additionally, reports from media houses say that the intruder was in Brown Forman’s environment for more than a month. In that time the hackers were able to methodically explore systems and devices. Not even the company’s cloud-based services were out of reach.

Meanwhile, in a series of messages which was posted on Twitter, the luxury hotel chain said that there was a potential data breach within the food and beverage reservation section. This according to them may lead to the compromise of personal data of some of their clients.
