Random testing being carried out at Police Bazar in Shillong

Shillong: Meghalaya on Wednesday saw a surge in COVID-19 cases after 78 new persons tested positive for the novel coronavirus. With this, the total number of active cases in the state soared to 804.

During a media briefing, director of health services Dr Aman Warr said that out of the 78 new cases, two are from North Garo Hills (1 returnee, 1 random sampling), 47 from East Khasi Hills (17 BSF personnel, 30 Others), two from East Jaintia Hills and 27 from West Garo Hills district (18 BSF personnel, nine others).

The total active cases in the state now stand at 804, with East Khasi Hills having 470 cases (BSF: 96, others: 298, armed forces 76), West Khasi Hills 3, South West Khasi 1, Ri-Bhoi 95, West Jaintia Hills 4, East Jaintia Hills 8, West Garo Hills 207, South West Garo Hills 4, South Garo Hills 2 and North Garo Hills 10 cases.

Likewise, the number of recovery cases in the state has also increased to 40 (East Khasi Hills 23, Ri -Bhoi 8, West Garo Hills 9 (8 BSF, 1 others).

The total number of recovered cases in the state now stands at 725.

The total number of samples sent for testing till August 19 is 44,695. Out of this 42,700 have tested negative, 460 are awaited.
