Imphal: Congress legislator Md Fazur Rahim has reportedly recovered from COVID-19 after testing negative for the coronavirus. The 50-year-old MLA of Wabgai constituency in Manipur was tested positive on August 10 after he returned from Delhi.
According to state health additional director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, the MLA was under home isolation at his residential quarters at Babupara in Imphal.
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, at least 96 infected persons were discharged, taking the total number of recovered cases in the state to 2,885.
The recovery rate is now 59.16%, as on August 19.
Meanwhile, another 111 persons, including 56 security personnel, were found positive for COVID-19 in the state.
With this, the total number of confirmed cases has soared to 4,876, including 1,973 active cases, of which 1,037 are from the general population and 936 from the security forces.

With only seven returnees out of the 55 new cases from the general population who were found to be COVID-19 positive, Manipur continued to witnesses locally transmitted cases without significant travel history to other states. Imphal West and Thoubal districts remained the epicentre for local transmission cases in the state.
The locally transmitted cases with no travel history were reported from Imphal West (26), Imphal East (18), Bishnupur (1), Thoubal (1) and Kakching (2) districts. The seven returnees belong to Churachandpur (5), Pherzawl (1) and Chandel (1).
The state health department, in its latest statement, has said that persons with asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic cases and who are willing for home isolation can choose the facility after consultation with their respective district chief medical officers (CMO).
