Manipur has reported 18 COVID-19 related deaths so far

Imphal: Manipur has recorded at least 18 fatalities related to COVID-19 cases so far with one more person succumbed to the disease on Tuesday.

According to health additional director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, a 75-year-old woman, who tested positive to the virus, expired at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital.

The victim belongs to Imphal West district and she was also suffering from other multiple health issues.

In the last 24 hours, 78 more persons from the state have tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total confirmed cases to 4,765.

The fresh cases include five security personnel and 73 from the general population.

According to Dr Mangang, only four belonging to Imphal West are among the 73 from the general population are returnees from other states and the remaining 69 are locals with no travel history.

The locally transmitted cases are reported from Imphal West (40), Imphal East (16) Bishnupur (9), Noney (2) and Thoubal (2).

Another 55 more infected persons have recovered and discharged. The accumulative number of recovered cases is 2,789 and active remained at 1,958.

The recovery rate in the state is 58.53 per cent.
