Imphal: Three more persons, all male, who tested positive for COVID-19 died in Manipur on Sunday, the highest number of fatality in a single day due to the coronavirus in the state so far.
According to additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, two patients who were undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Imphal succumbed to the virus. The 44-year-old man was a BSF jawan and another deceased, aged 94 years old, is from Thoubal district, he added.
Another 73-year-old COVID-19 patient from Imphal West district also reportedly dead at Jawarharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital due to the virus and other co-morbid health conditions.
Now, the total number of coronavirus related deaths is 16.
Meanwhile, a total of 179 fresh cases, including 111 security personnel, of COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 4,569.
Of the 68 cases from the general population, only eight of them are returnees from other states and they belong to Noney (2), Ukhrul (2), Imphal East (1), Senapati (1), Kangpokpi (1) and Imphal West (1) districts.
The locally transmitted cases with no travel history outside Manipur were detected from the districts of Imphal West (46), Thoubal (4), Imphal East (8), Senapati (1), Ukhrul (1), respectively.
In the last 24 hours, the recovery rate in the state has increased to 57.60 per cent with 194 more infected persons recovered from COVID-19 virus.
The total number of recovered cases is now 2,632 and active 1,921.
