Guwahati: Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling missed an absolute sitter as his side exited the UEFA Champions League, after being beaten 3-1 by Lyon in Lisbon, on Saturday.
The French team had been sensational on the field as they managed a lead of 1-0 early in the first half, with Maxwel Cornet scoring one in the 24th minute of the game. They maintained the lead going into half-time.
City started the second half quite frantically and managed to level the score 1-1 through Kevin De Bruyne in 69th minute of the game. But that was all City had to celebrate for the day as nothing much seemed to go as planned for them after that.
In search of the game-winner, Gabriel Jesus managed to find some space inside the Lyon penalty box and pulled off an insane pass to find Sterling at the second post. However, Sterling having the entire goal post to aim at, somehow managed to miss the shot, thus missing a golden opportunity to take a 2-1 lead over Lyon.
Lyon eventually went on to beat Manchester City 3-1 after Moussa Dembele scored twice in quick successions in the 79th and 87th minute, taking Lyon past City in the race to the semis.
Lyon, as it reached the Champions League semifinal for the second time in its history, will now face off against the in-form Bayern Munich, who are on the back of a massive 8-2 win over Barcelona in their last match.
