The schools that have already collected fees will need to readjust the amount when the students' next installment is due

Guwahati: The government of Assam has issued a circular stating that all private schools must waive off 25% of school fees for this year. According to the circular, school fees will be waived off for the students of pre-primary to Class XII in private schools.

The circular was also tweeted by Assam education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stating that the reduction of fees will be applicable from May 1, 2020 till the formal and physical reopening of schools in the state.


In his tweet, Sarma said, “In view of the COVID19 pandemic, we’ve advised all private educational institutions to offer at least 25% concessions in monthly fees (pre-primary to XII), from May 1, 2020, till the formal opening of schools.”

He added that fees of private schools are being reduced due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the institutions saving a major expenditure under various heads.

Himanta also stated that the schools that have already collected fees will need to readjust the amount when the students’ next installment is due.
