COVID-19 cases in Manipur have now risen to 4,390

Imphal: Cases of COVID-19 virus continued to soar in Manipur with 192 more people testing positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike recorded in the state so far.

The overall confirmed cases of COVID-19 now stand at 4,390, of which 3,309 are from the general population and 1,091 are security personnel.

At least 131 cases were detected from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Out of the 61 from the general population, only 15 are returnees from other states. The remaining 46 got exposed to the virus without prior travel history.

According to a statement issued by additional health director Dr K Sasheekuamr Mangang, the 15 returnees belong to Chandel (6), Imphal East (4), Kamjong (2), Senapati (2) and Kakching (1) districts.

The 46 fresh cases with no travel history are from Imphal East (21), Noney (8), Imphal West (5), Thoubal (5), Bishnupur (4), Chandel (2) and Senapati (1) districts, respectively.

Necessary measures like admitting the new COVID-19 patients at the hospitals and facility centres, contact tracing and containment process have been put in place, said Dr Mangang.

On Saturday, at least 78 more persons infected with the virus recovered and were discharged from CAPF (37), RIMS (5), JNIMS (8), Ukhrul (1), Thoubal (1), NEILET Churachandpur (14), Kasom Khullen (2), Churachandpur Lanva (5) and RD wing (3).

Subsequently, the recovery rate has increased to 55.53 per cent.

So far, as many as 2,438 persons have recovered from the virus and another 1,939 are undergoing treatment.
