Street in Imphal West district wore a deserted look during the ongoing lockdown

Imphal: Manipur continues to remain on complete lockdown mode as the state government announced another 15 days’ statewide shutdown till August 31 or until further notice.

The decision was taken during the state cabinet ministers’ meeting along with chief minister N Biren Singh amid the continued rise of COVID-19 cases, especially locally transmitted cases with no travel history to other states.

According to the statement issued by chief secretary Rakesh Kumar, there would be partial relaxation on essential services during the total lockdown to ensure that people in the state do not suffer from the basic services.

There shall be lockdown except for the essential activities and restrictions of movement of any person outside their respective residence will be imposed from 5 pm to 6 am across the state, it said.

As on August 14 in Manipur, at least 4,198 persons have got infected to the virus, out of which 1,825 are undergoing treatment for the disease at various COVID-19 care centers and hospitals.

The cumulative number of discharged cases is 2,360, of which 2,168 are from the general population and 192 are security forces personnel.

So far, the pandemic has already claimed 13 lives in the state.
