ENGvsPAK: Pakistan reach 223/9 as bad light forces early stumps on Day 2

Guwahati: Led by a lower-order resistance from Pakistani wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan managed to put up a score of 223/9 on the board, before bad light forced early stumps on Day 2.

With a delayed start by almost 90 minutes because of the morning rain, Pakistan held firm against the English seam attack early on, as they added 29 runs without losing a wicket going into lunch. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan did well to deal with the swinging ball, taking the Paksitani score to 155/5 at lunch.

However, Azam was dismissed soon after lunch as he nicked one off Broad’s bowling, to be caught behind the stumps at 47. Yasir Shah quickly followed Azam as he also got dismissed caught behind of Anderson’s bowling, having managed to score just 5 runs.

Although Shaheen Afridi did not score a single run, he tried to give some support to the Pakistani innings, as he managed to hang around Rizwan, before he was run out to brilliant direct hit from Dom Sibley.

With Pakistan at 176/8, it was really down to Rizwan who was playing his eighth test, to produce some kind of a miracle for the Pakistani innings.

Joined by Mohammad Abbas, Rizwan managed to strike the ball well as he marked Pakistan’s Independence Day bringing up his fine half-century under pressure. Abbas and Rizwan added 39 runs for the 9th wicket, frustrating the English bowlers.

Abbas(2) was eventually out to the first ball he faced after a bad light-driven early tea, plumb lbw to give Broad his third.

Following Abbas’ dismissal, only five more deliveries were bowled, before the players left the field again and early stumps had to be called due to bad light, leaving Pakistan at 223/9 with Rizwan unbeaten at 60 with number 11 Naseem Shah. England bowlers will look to wrap up the Pakistan innings as soon as possible going into Day 3.
