Imphal: Days after six rebel Congress MLAs resigned from the party citing ‘lack of trust’ in the party leadership, the Opposition party on Thursday stated that the allegations made by the former party legislators are completely baseless and unfounded.
In a press conference held in Imphal, party leader and Congress Working Committee member Gaikhangam Gangmei said that the wrongful allegations made by the six MLAs who left the party is something unthinkable.
According to Gaikhangam, the six former Congress MLAs left the party in their own will and personal interest, and there was no pressure either from the leadership or the party side.
“They left in their own interest. Instead of blaming the Congress party, they should hold the responsibility for their own breach,” he said.
“I would like to advise to them that they should follow the principle and ethics of politics, without which they committed such blunder and blaming others are something very unfortunate, Gaikhangam added.

The press conference which was held at the official residence of Congress MLA K Meghachandra was also attended by party MLAs K Ranjit, K Govindas and Th Lokeshwar.
The press conference was directed on the allegations of the Congress MLAs who have left the party recently. Their criticism of the CLP leader and their absence of political principles will have no acceptance by the people. The Congress is ready for the upcoming by-elections, said Congress spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei.
Led by MLA Okram Henry Singh, nephew of the former chief minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh, all the six Congress MLAs submitted their resignation letters to the Speaker on Monday, to which the notice was accepted on August 11.
Speaking with EastMojo earlier, former Congress MLA Henry said that they decided due to lack of trust in the party leadership under CLP leader Ibobi Singh.
In 2017 elections, Congress has secured the single largest party in the state but due to the leadership, Congress failed to form the government, said Henry.
They were among the eight Congress MLAs who skipped the trust vote in the recently concluded one-day Assembly session, in which the N Biren Singh-led government won the trust motion by voice vote.
