Imphal: Manipur government has warned college teachers and other staff working under the higher education department of the state to refrain from expressing their views and statement on state policies in the public domain, including media.
In a statement issued by the director of the university and higher education of the state, Khumanthem Diana Devi, on August 10, it said that on several occasions, some government college teachers have been writing or expressing their views on the state programmes in the media.
Such unofficial statement, according to Devi, may likely to promote defiance of authority or it can amount to adverse criticism towards the government policies.
In case of publishing any writings or statement on the state government’s policies in the media, prior approval from the competent authority under the higher education department is required to avoid further escalation, it said.
The statement further said for that those who fail to comply with the instruction, appropriate disciplinary proceedings will be taken against them by the disciplinary authority as per the law under the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rule, 1965.
Meanwhile, education minister Th Radheshyam Singh also chaired a review meeting on the work progress for constituting task force and to decide further course of action for fully comprehending the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 and implementing the policy in the state.
The task force, as per the official statement, constituted 25 to 30 members drawn from experts, educationists, educational enthusiasts, social workers, prominent individuals in the field of sports, art & culture, dance among others.
Representatives from SCERT, department of education-S, department of higher & technical education, BoSEM, CoHSEM and departments of health, social welfare and tribal affairs & hills are part of the task force.
Emphasising on the need for a thorough understanding of the new education policy, minister Radheshyam has asked the officials to distribute the booklets on NEP, 2020 to as many stakeholders as possible and obtain feedback and suggestions before formulating the policy in the state.
