The accused is currently posted at 124 battalion in Agartala

Agartala: Tripura police have booked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl several times over the past few months.

The matter came to light after the parents discovered that she was seven months pregnant. Later, the girl informed her parents about the incident.

According to police sources, the incident occurred at a village in Kailashahar subdivision under Unakoti district of Tripura. The CRPF jawan is currently posted at 124 Battalion located in Shalbagan, around 10 km from Agartala.

“A complaint was made on Sunday evening against the 35-year-old CRPF jawan for raping the minor several times in the past few months making her seven months pregnant. We have filed an FIR but the accused is yet to be arrested,” Rinki Debbarma, officer in-charge of Kailashshar women police station, said.

She also said that the accused is a neighbour of the survivor and when she became pregnant the accused refused to accept. Based on a written complaint, we have registered a case under Section 417, 376 (c) (m) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

“We have written a letter to the commandant of CRPF 124 battalion informing him about the incident. We are waiting for his reply in this regard till Wednesday. If we do not receive any reply from the battalion, we will decide the next course of action,” Debbarma added.

Earlier, on July 30, Tripura police arrested 10 persons allegedly accused of raping a 17-year-old girl in Teliamura subdivision under Khowai district.
