This is the first case of an elected legislator testing COVID-19 positive in Manipur

Imphal: Manipur Congress MLA Md Fajur Rahim has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19, the first legislator in the state to have got infected with the coronavirus.

As per reports, the sample of the legislator from Wabagai constituency was collected on Sunday and it turned out to be positive on Monday evening. MLA Rahim had returned from Delhi on August 8 along with MLA Yamthong Haokip and has been on paid quarantine at Hotel Imphal.

However, MLA Haokip tested negative for the virus, said sources.

They were among the eight Congress MLAs who skipped to attend the special one-day assembly session and confidence motion moved by the chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday.

By the time of filing this report, as per sources, MLA Rahim was yet to move to a COVID-19 care facility for further course of treatment.

An official statement from the health department is still awaited.
