Guwahati: Assam government on Monday decided to give full-fledged district status to Bajali, currently a sub-division under Barpeta district, making it the 34th district in the state. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of CM Sarbananda Sonowal held earlier in the day.

With the up-gradation of Bajali as a district, 10 officer posts and 85 other posts will be created.

Among several other key outcomes, the state decided to create two new companies of State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF). Further, a resolution has been passed to form a committee to fix the fees of private schools in the state with the approval of the Assam Non-Government Education Institutions (Regulation of Fees) Rules 2020.

The government also enhance the honorarium of state’s 161 honorary librarians from Rs 900 to Rs 1200 and 153 helpers honorariums from Rs 550 to Rs 9,000.

Also, a decision was taken for issuing notification of increase in time limits for returns, forms, assessments etc. under Assam VAT Act. Further, Assam Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Scheme 2020 was approved.

The Cabinet approved State Cattle, and Buffalo Breeding Policy 2020 and decision was taken for implementation of ‘Uberization’ scheme of ASTC. Under this, 668 new buses would operate for 5 years.
