Guwahati: Assam recorded 2,218 new COVID cases and eight COVID related fatalities on Saturday, taking the state’s total count to 57,714 cases with 140 deaths so far. Meanwhile, 16,980 are active cases and 40,591 discharged so far.
Of the new cases reported, the highest are from Kamrup (metro) district (299), followed by Cachar (165), Nagaon (150) and Dibrugarh (142).
Assam’s positivity rate is now at 4.04%. The state has constantly maintained a figure below 5% in terms of positivity rate, which is good news for the state.
Meanwhile, among the eight deceased, 2 each are from Nalbari and Tinsukia district; while Morigaon, Kokrajhar, Nagaon and Dibrugarh districts reported 1 death each. Despite the new deaths being reported everyday, Assam’s mortality rate is among the lowest in the country, at 0.24%.

Informing about the deceased on Twitter, state health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Samra tweeted, “Sad with the demise of 8 COVID patients~Late Mahan Talukdar (45) & Late Azizur Rahman (52), N’bari; Late Narayan C Deka (54) & Late Dulu Paul (50), T’kia; Late Turab Ali (48), M’gaon; Late Sufala Gogoi (46), K’jhar; Late Khanindra Nath (55), Nagaon; Late Prakash Jain (60), D’garh.”

Also, 1782 patients were discharged yesterday, taking the total number of discharged and cured patients in Assam to 40,591. The recovery rate in the state now stands at 70.30%.
Meanwhile, 3 COVID patients have migrated to other state.
As reported on Saturday, Assam conducted 54,845 tests in the last 24 hours. Now, the total number of COVID-19 tests in the state is nearing the 13 lakh mark, while tests per million population is 37,725 – one of the highest in the country.
