Imphal: In the last 24 hours, the total number of people infected with COVID-19 in Manipur spiked to 3,635 with 169 more cases was reported from the general population and security personnel.

In a statement issued by additional health director Dr K Sasheekuamar Mangang, at least 75 persons from the general population were found tested positive for the coronavirus and another 94 more from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

They were tested at VRDLS of RIMS (28), JNIMS (122), Imphal West Rapid Antigen Test kits (5), Babina Diagnostics (1), Churachandpur (4), Chandel (6) and Ukhrul (3), Dr Mangang said.

Of the latest fresh cases from the locals, only four from Noney district are reported as the returnees from outside Manipur and the remaining 71 are those who do not have recent travel history to other states.

The locally transmitted cases with no travel history to other states are reported from districts of Imphal West (25), Bishnupur (21), Imphal East (7), Chandel (6), Churachandpur (4), Ukhrul (3), Noney (3) and Thoubal (2). Total locally transmitted with no travel history is 765 so far.

They are being shifted to COVID-19 Care facilities for further treatment and contacts tracing of those who have come in contact with positive cases are in place as a preventive measure, it said.

Only one infected person from JNIMS COVID-19 ward discharged after tested negative on the RT PCR test.

Out of the total confirmed 3,635 positive cases, 2,840 are reported from the general population and 795 belong to the central security personnel based in the state.5

The total active cases stood at 1,697, in which 995 are the local and 702 are from the armed forces. Also, as many as 1,927 infected persons have recovered so far, of which 1,834 are from the general population and 93 of them are security personnel.

The pandemic has claimed at least 11 lives in the state.
