Guwahati: Richard Yantham, the only candidate from Nagaland to clear the Civil Services Examination 2019, completed his graduation from Assam down town University (AdtU) in Guwahati.
Yantham, who is the first Naga to make it to the IAS list after 2007, graduated in BTech (Civil Engineering), batch of 2013-17, from AdtU. Following this, he left for Delhi to prepare for the examination, where he underwent coaching.
Dr Arnob Bormudoi, HoD (Faculty of Engineering and Technology), said that Richard was a very bright, sincere and hard working student.
Richard secured 133rd position in the coveted exam and is all set to become an IAS officer. He cracked the exam in his second attempt.
In an exclusive interview with EastMojo, he expressed that the result came as a surprise as he did not expect to be ranked 133. “I did think that maybe I will get something this year, but the rank was unexpected,” he said, adding, “Ultimately, it is all God’s doing”.
He recalled how he did not pass through the interview in his first attempt in 2018. But the failure did not stop him from applying for the examination again, as he remained determined and focused.
As Richard prepared for civil service exams, he also appeared for Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) NCS, NPS, NSS and Allied Services 2018 exams results where he secured the 7th rank, in his first attempt. He said that since June 15, he was posted and attached to the Deputy Resident Commissioner (DRC) at the Nagaland House in Delhi.
