Assam COVID-19 related death toll is now at 121

Guwahati: Another 6 persons succumbed to COVID-19 in Assam on Wednesday, taking the state’s death toll related to the virus at 121.

Of the six deceased, two are from Dibrugarh, and one each from Kamrup (Metro), Tinsukia, Cachar and Darrang district.

Informing about the same, Assam health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Sad to share the demise of 6 #COVID patients~ Late Ramesh Chandra Medhi (81) of Kamrup (M), Late Ram Kumar Mahato (58) & Late Tarini Charan Kalita (60) of Dibrugarh, Late Badal Debnath (56) of Tinsukia, Late Kanu Paul (56) of Cachar and Late Lalbhanu Khatoon (35) of Darrang.”

A major chunk of Assam’s COVID related deaths have been reported in the past month or around 30 days.

As per the cumulative count of confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday night, the state has reported 48,161 cases of which 34,421 have discharged, 13,622 are active, 115 have died, and 3 have migrated to other states.

Until last night, Assam’s mortality rate was 0.24%, which is among the lowest in the country.
