Education minister Ratan Lal Nath launches online portal for admission in government degree colleges

Agartala: As the number of coronavirus cases soar in the state, Tripura education department on Tuesday launched an online admission system through an admission portal for all 22 government general degree colleges in the state.

Speaking with reporters, state education minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the decision was taken to ease the difficulties of students and also ensure that students can easily take admission in colleges of their choice sitting at home amidst the pandemic.

“The candidates will fill up their application forms online from their homes and they will get details available online. One student can apply for a minimum of six colleges and a maximum of 15 colleges in a user friendly manner,” Nath said.

He also said that the process will require only marks, roll number, photograph, signatures of candidates to be uploaded and based on the common merit will be published for the admission of shortlisted students.

“Candidates opting for honours and pass courses can fill up their requirement and would be notified once the college displays their merit list,” Nath added.

He also said that the government has decided to waive off all charges for admission including registration fees, admission fees, college development fees, tuition fees, except for the university registration and some nominal fees that would be charged from the candidates.

“The students one getting registered on the portal will be able to choose from the list of colleges and programs they are interested in and eligible. The education department has fixed a maximum seat limit in each class to maintain teacher-student ratio as per Tripura University standards,” Nath said.

For those students facing difficulty in registering themselves or completing the process telephonic guidance or email support would be made available for them.

Meanwhile, regular classes in colleges going on through online mode using different online applications including Skype, upGrad, Microsoft teams among others.

The admission process would begin from August 10 and continue till August 20 next. The education department will release the first merit list on August 25, followed by second list on August 29 and third list on September 3 next. Admission confirmation would be notified between August 26 and continue till September 5 next.
