While the eldest to die due to COVID-19 today was 80 years old, the youngest was 45, taking the death toll in the state to 109

Guwahati: Four more persons succumbed to the novel coronavirus in Assam on Monday. Just a day earlier, another four COVID-19 positive patients lost their lives in the state.

With this, the total number of deaths rose to 109 in Assam.

While the eldest to die was 80 years, the youngest was aged 45. The deceased have been identified as Subrata Patra (45) from Kamrup (Metro), Haren Mahanta (65) form Sivasagar, Sukendra Kumar Tanti (53) from Tinsukia and Madan Dutta (80) from Dibrugarh.

State health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to announce the development.

He wrote, “Always painful to lose your own. Sad at 4 lives lost today due to #COVID19 – Late Subrata Patra (45, Kamrup M); Late Haren Mahanta (65, Sivasagar); Late Sukendra Kumar Tanti (53, Tinsukia); Late Madan Dutta (80, Dibrugarh).My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.”

Meanwhile, on Sunday, 1,178 COVID-19 positive cases were identified in the state with Kamrup (M) at 268 cases. This took the total number of active patients to 10,412. Up to 32,384 people have been discharged so far with the death toll at 109.
